Before I tell you about my visit to this beautiful castle, let me introduce it to you. The Château de Réveillon was built in the early 17th century; it is a designated historic monument and is notable for its Louis XIII style. It is located in a small town of about 100 residents on the border between the Marne and Seine-et-Marne departments, about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Paris.
When Katell and I arrived, we were greeted by Madame Besançon, the owner of the property. She and her husband bought the castle 30 years ago to carry out extensive renovations—work that continues to this day to maintain the estate.
We begin our tour of the interiors with a beautiful dining room where four paintings depicting the four elements take center stage. We continue on to the 18th-century parlors, where we can admire the refined decor, just as in the rest of the castle. But I won’t give too much away—I invite you to discover the history of this place for yourself.
Our tour then continues to the outbuildings, some of which have been renovated to host events such as weddings, seminars, and receptions of all kinds. The outbuildings also include a fully restored dovecote with 3,200 nesting boxes and a magnificent roof structure—I think this is my favorite spot!
Finally, we explore the French-style gardens, which were laid out in the 17th century and have been fully restored over the past 30 years—notably through the replanting of hundreds of boxwood trees—to restore the site to its former splendor.
